LineScape Dusk is a site-specific installation that transforms a 26-foot museum wall into an immersive exploration of endurance, movement, and impermanence. Created with the understanding that it will vanish at the close of the exhibition, the work embodies Alfonso’s philosophy of artmaking as an act of physical endurance—an unseen, action-based performance. The labor-intensive process of crafting this large-scale drawing demanded the full engagement of Alfonso’s body, making her movements an intrinsic part of the work’s creation.
LineScape Dusk evokes the sweeping expanses of Claude Monet’s Water Lilies, channeling the Impressionist’s meditations on horizon lines while pushing the boundaries of the gallery space. Departing from her earlier monochromatic practice, Alfonso employs a soft pastel palette, capturing a delicate interplay of color and light. Although abstract, the work draws inspiration from Alfonso’s connection to the Everglades, South Florida’s iconic natural landscape, inviting viewers to experience its vastness and fragility through a new lens.
This ephemeral installation invites audiences to reflect on the temporality of art, the landscapes that inspire it, and the endurance and labor often hidden behind the final image. LineScape Dusk is as much a tribute to the natural world as it is a testament to the power of movement and process in contemporary art.
