Unfolding the Line II
Unfolding the Line II is an iteration of a drawing directly on the gallery wall. The artwork is a 30-foot-wide by 10-foot-tall L-shaped yellow drawing executed using construction chalk. This direct wall application of marks is repeated and abstracted with a diverse palette of yellow, orange, and red tones, creating an abstract representation of a wildflower field. The drawing technique meticulously uses a 1-inch diameter, 4-inch-long construction yellow chalk. Employing it like a pencil, I covered the entire 30x10 feet surface. By repetitively cross-hatching and subsequently smudging, a solid yellow block emerged, evoking ideas of hidden toil, endurance, and repetition. This process unfolded beyond the audience's view, a deliberate gesture underscoring the concealed actions that constantly transpire unnoticed. Following the square's completion, I repeated manual motions, and an intricate field of abstracted flowers emerged, forming the final composition. This drawing underscores the transitory nature of labor, encouraging personal adaptation to impermanence. This artwork's existence is temporal, solely for the exhibition's duration. Its eventual obliteration through painting over it reinforces the cyclical aspect of creation and erasure. It encapsulates contemplation on concealed efforts, the enduring rhythm of repetition, and the temporality inherent in the artwork.
